1. What we collect

Nothing. Cloud File Viewer has no server, no account and no analytics. We never receive your data, because there is nowhere for it to go.

2. What stays on your device

The extension stores a small amount of information locally, through the browser's own storage. It never leaves your machine:

  • Recent buckets: the names of buckets you visited, so the popup can offer them again.
  • Usage statistics: how many files you opened this week and how much bandwidth previewing saved you, shown in the Statistics tab.
  • Preferences: whether you dismissed the feedback prompt, and when.

Removing the extension deletes all of it. You can also clear it at any time from Chrome's extension settings.

3. Your files

File content is fetched by your browser straight from Google Cloud Storage, using the Google session you are already signed into, and displayed locally. It is read in chunks, never stored, and never sent anywhere else. We cannot see your files, your buckets or your project.

4. Permissions

  • storage: keeps the local data listed above.
  • tabs: detects when you open a Cloud Storage page, so the extension knows when to run.
  • alarms: rotates the weekly statistics once a week.
  • Host access to console.cloud.google.com, storage.cloud.google.com and accounts.google.com: reads the file you asked to preview and detects whether you are signed in.

5. Third parties

None. The extension loads no external script, font or stylesheet, and makes no request to any domain other than Google Cloud Storage itself.
